Ngalwangardi is a senior member of the Iwaidja-speaking Karturra clan on Croker Island. She is a founding member of the Iwaidja Inyman language team and has worked as a key language and culture consultant for the project since its beginning in July 2004. More Info

Khaki Marrala

Khaki Marrala, approaching eighty, is the oldest member of the Iwaidja Inyman language team, and widely considered to be the ultimate authority on the Iwaidja language and culture. More info

David Minyimak

Cookie is a senior member of the Iwaidja Inyman language team and one of its most valued cultural informants. He is a singer and composer of Jurtbirrk, an Iwaidja song genre that translates into English as 'love songs'. More info

 

Charlie Mangulda

Charlie is a key cultural consultant with the Iwaidja Inyman language team. His knowledge of the Cobourg region and of his own country, the Mt Borrodaile Bunij estate, is at the highest level. As a singer of Yanajanak, he is in much demand for performing at ceremonies across Arnhem Land. More info

 

Archie Brown

Archie is a senior Iwaidja language consultant for the project. He provides important cultural information and acts as interpreter between the older Indigenous team members and non-Indigenous team members. More info

 

 

Ilijili Lamilami

Ilijili is a fluent speaker of both Iwaidja and Mawng. She plays an important role in the maintenance of her language and culture, instilling in the younger generations of her family her own insatiable appetite for hunting and spending time on country. More info

 

Bruce Birch

Bruce is the principal field linguist of Iwaidja Inyman with more than ten years experience documenting and studying Iwaidja and other related languages of Northwestern Arnhem Land. More info

Sabine Hoeng

Sabine was the initiator of Iwaidja Inyman in 2004 and has been coordinator of the project since its inception. More info
